Year End Round Up: 2021

Artwork by Winnie Song

Hi, so this is a list of ten things that helped me get through last year, maybe you'll find something in it that'll help you get through the next.  (If I had the time, there are probably a hundred things I could list.)

1. NYU Game Center MFA 2021 Thesis Projects

I know this is cheating since this is actually about 18 games lol but the first thing I want to write about are my cohorts' thesis games.  My classmates and I graduated a little over half a year ago (the pandemic has totally warped my sense of time though because it feels like it's been three years or something already) and a lot of our thesis projects have demos online.  I've gone ahead and made an itch.io collection with all of the projects that are available.  These games were made by some of the smartest and most talented people I know and there's such a wide variety of different types of games too.  I really wish we could've had more time to spend together in person.  I'm still having difficulty processing everything that's happened the last two years..  I miss all of you.  (The art above was done by one of our professors, Winnie Song, and features thumbnails of all of our thesis projects as well as our thesis professors.)

Hi there.

Xin chào. I'm Toby, a video game designer, and this is my new blog where I'll be writing about games, films, books, music, and anything else I find interesting.

Making a blog has been on my to do list for a while so I'm looking forward to finally having an outlet to write about stuff at length.  A few months ago, I got a bunch of new followers on Twitter after I posted a trailer for the game I'm currently working on (the one above), but I feel like I never got a chance to fully introduce myself.
